The safety of our children at JOY is a top priority. If you are currently serving in any capacity with children or are planning to in the future, we require that you attend the Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children training.
We are offering this course here at JOY on Sunday August 6th from 4:00pm-6:30pm. Snacks will be provided and there will be no cost to you.
If you are unable to attend this training, you are welcome to do the online course at: https://www.d2l.org/online-login-groups/ , this however would be at your own expense.
Why has JOY implemented this training as a standard for all children's workers?
The facts are shocking.
One in 10 children will be the victim of sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. Despite this startling statistic, it’s a silent epidemic that people are afraid to talk about.
To prevent abuse, we have to break through the stigma and shame, and talk about how the sexual abuse of children happens. It’s the only way we will be able to stop what is arguably the number one health crisis that children face today.
What we know
- It can happen to anyone – even friends and family around you. Even a child you know and love. Even your own child.
- The financial, social, and emotional costs are incalculable. Not just on the victim and their family, but on society as a whole.
- Child sexual abuse is not the problem of just one socio-economic status, culture, race, religion, or gender. It impacts EVERY community and EVERY person across the globe.
Darkness to Light believes that adults are responsible for the safety of children and should be taking proactive steps to protect children from this significant risk.
