Finding Peace in Confusion

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning December 18, 2016.

Matthew 1:18-25
Joseph's fiancé is with child, and he has a decision to make. In times of confusion we find that things don't always go as planned. We feel pressure to make the right decision, or pressure for the sake of what others make think of us.
Let's look to the text, specifically Joseph's life in Matthew 1, to help find God's peace in the midst of confusing times.

A Thankful Heart

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning November 27, 2016.

A Thankful Heart:
A heart where Christ's peace is in control.
A heart where Christ's word is overflowing,
A heart where Christ is lifted up.
Colossians 3:15-17

Notes from Sunday Morning:
Christ's Peace is in control:
Colossians 3:15
▸ LET: to allow to happen (to join)
▸ PEACE:
▸ 1. Internal - a hope, calm within
▸ 2. External - unity with others
▸ 3. Eternal - reconciliation with God
▸ RULE: (As an umpire) to judge between (paths)
▸ BE THANKFUL - Where there is peace,
gratitude flourishes.

Christ's word is overflowing:
Colossians 3:16
▸ “message of Christ”: how He came, what
He did, why He did all that He did, how He
responded to others, His world view
▸ DWELL (RICHLY): to be intertwined, mixed
fully, present and purposed (Ps 1:2-3)
▸ This truth should express itself outwardly
in all our words with gratitude

Christ is lifted up:
Colossians 3:17
▸ When we truly realize who we are(were)
without Christ’s and fully know what
Christ did to restore us to Father, our
hearts should burst with overwhelming
gratitude. Then, every word, every action,
will reveal Christ and our love for God
and others.

Jesus Paid It All

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning November 20, 2016.

Jesus paid it all. This Thanksgiving, we couldn’t be more thankful for anything than we are of the gift of Jesus Christ through his death on a cross. We thank God that we have a savior that knows us, has paid our sin debt and given us new life by His Spirit!

Orphan Sunday

Audio from Associate Pastor Josh Carpenter on Sunday morning November 13, 2016.

Orphan Sunday is a day that thousands of churches all across our globe raise awareness, raise funds, raise up families and raise up prayer on behalf of the vulnerable children.
The numbers are staggering: 150 million vulnerable children worldwide, over 400k here in the US.
This is a call to all of God's people to get involved!
Is there a closer parallel to God's redemption work, than when an orphan child is given a room in his father's house? Adoption has always been the plan for humanity.

Throughout October we have discussed, on a weekly basis, the fall feasts of the Jewish calendar and their place in our Christian heritage. The culmination of these fall feasts is the Feast of Sukkot, an intense time of celebration. Jesus attends this feast in John 7:37-38 and makes a powerful claim about “living water”.

Psalms Week 4

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning October 16, 2016.

Why are these Psalms so special?
They don’t really tell a story like the rest of the Bible, (Our God loves relating to us in story - 70% of the Bible is in narrative form.) but revealing the powerful emotions of those in the narrative, those in the story. They touch us deeply in our emotions, in our need… they put words to our hope with praise and thanksgiving to God, They also put words to our feelings of hopelessness and fear.

Psalms Week 3

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning October 9, 2016.

The Psalms have been the prayer book of Israel for the past 3,000 years and the prayer book of the church for the past 2,000 years. The Psalms explore every possible response we can have to problems, despair, fear, anger… every emotion known to man and they also reveal who God is and how we are to answer our situation. From the highest awe to the deepest love, from the darkest despair to icy anger Psalms is a powerful revelation of those who are being transparent and sincere in their expression of love and fear, strength and weakness, rejoicing and lamenting.

Because of the cross, the death, His burial, His resurrection, we find, we know and can be confident in God’s love for us. No matter how bad the problem, how big the challenge, how hard the walk… Jesus is our Savior, our King, our Deliverer.

Hagah: The Study of God's Word

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning September 18, 2016.

In Joshua 1:8 God tells Joshua to 'meditate' on His word day and night. The Hebrew word used here is 'Hagah'. Our western idea of meditation, as quite inward reflection, greatly misses the flavor of Hagah.
This Hebrew word may also be translated as 'growl' (see Isa. 31:4). Hagah is described as the sound a lion makes before digging into its prey. God has told Joshua to feed on His word with the same passion as a hungry lion feasting on a fresh kill.
Are we reading God's word just to complete a to-do list, or are we truly feeding on His text? Let's Hagah the word together!

Young lions 'Hagah'.

Redeemed: Living a Compelled Life

Audio from Associate Pastor Josh Carpenter on Sunday morning September 4, 2016.

We're wrapping up our 4 week study on God's redeeming work in our life, with the last message: Living a Compelled Life.
What does the transformation look like when we go from readers of the Word to doers of the Word? A life compelled by Christ reveals itself in several ways: putting down our old ways, life changes that last, a desire for good works, relationships with God and people and sharing this good news.

Redeemed: A Life Changed

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning August 28, 2016.

We continue our study in 2 Corinthians 5 by looking at how our lives are changed by the love of Christ.  A redeemed life will grow in God's purposes, become passionate for His ways, will pray for a deeper understanding of His word and how we live our lives by it, will be ready at all times to join in God's mission and spur one another on to good works.

Redeemed: Compelled by Love

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning August 21, 2016.

In 2 Corinthians 5 we read that Christ has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. The love of God and his works in our life will compel us to bring this hope of reconciliation to others. We see this evidence in Paul’s ministry. Despite constant persecution, Paul persevered and was moved to preach the gospel, because of the love of Christ.

Redeemed: Our Point of View

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning August 14, 2016.

Since Genesis Chapter 3, God has been at work redeeming fallen man. What does that mean for our lives today? As we study God’s word in 2 Corinthians 5 we see that God is doing more than just saving our souls for eternity. Every aspect of our lives will be touched by God’s redeeming work, including our worldview and our thinking.

Manna: Jesus is the Bread of Life

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning July 31, 2016.

In John Chapter 6 Jesus performs a great miracle: He feeds 5000 with five small barley loaves and two fish. We can link this event of provision with Deuteronomy 1:30-31, the Lord carried the children of Israel through the wilderness as a father carries a son, by meeting their daily needs.

Jesus carried and sustained the people's need for nourishment on a hillside by the sea of Galilee. This same Lord carries and sustains our daily needs, not just for food and drink - but the hope of help in the wilderness, a purpose for this life and an eternal hope in His Kingdom.

Manna: A Well-Timed Help

Audio from Senior Pastor Vaughn Drawdy on Sunday morning July 24, 2016

God is never late with His provision. As the Israelite community is being led out of Egypt and into the wilderness (Exodus 16), they come to the end of their strength. With little food left, God meets their needs with a well-timed help: Manna.

Looking to the text we will find that as the people of God, we cannot live by just the works of our human hands. Every day, God will provide His people with the bread (provision) of today.
